Dave Mallen, Producer

Perhaps it all began at age 4, when his mother taught him his first piano chords; or age 8, when one day he mirrored the guitar fingerings he saw Buddy Holly playing on an old Ed Sullivan rerun. Or maybe it was the day his father played him some vintage reel-to-reel recordings of a 1968 folk music radio show. All we know is that Dave Mallen discovered at a very early age the immeasurable power of music, and his love for creating it.

As a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Dave Mallen has performed with several bands over the years, primarily in New Jersey and the Washington DC area. These days, he can be found playing solo acoustic shows, as well as co-writing and performing with other talented artists, such as LA-based singer-songwriter Justin Sheehy (of Jonasay) and Brad Pugh (of Practically Einstein).

Almost as soon as he was playing music, Dave was enamored with recording it. His Father still remembers the day his son figured out how to create overdubs using two Radio Shack tape recorders (kids, don’t try this at home). Then, there was his 6th grade term paper on new digital audio recording formats, for which he received an “A – Even though I didn’t understand a word!” from his teacher. Later, college buddies helped him build a loft for his dorm room bed, so that he could install a mini 4-track recording “studio” underneath.

Today, Dave Mallen owns and operates his production company, InNoVation Station Music, based in Arlington, VA – just outside the nation’s capital. Building his studio and unique artist-focused business model was an outgrowth of his training in the Music Business and Technology program within the Berklee College of Music -- one of the top contemporary music schools in the country.

Dave currently works out of his home studio, as a Producer, Engineer, Co-writer (and often Therapist!), working with some of DC’s top musicians and other great artists from across the country.
